Issues
Local leaders are elected to solve problems and improve Provo for everyone. Good solutions require a clear picture of what's really happening, grapple with trade-offs, input from different people, and a willingness to find win-win solutions that work for as many people as possible. As your councilmember, I'll push for a real strategic plan that turns our aspirations into specific, measurable actions.

Provo's Economy & Finances
Provo's Economy & Finances
I consistently hear concerns about rising costs, particularly for those on fixed incomes. Meanwhile, Provo's budget is tight—our sales tax revenue has dropped four years in a row while we need more funding for roads and police. The only way to meet residents' needs without raising taxes is smart economic growth. I'll use my experience as a consultant, entrepreneur, and small business owner to help tackle this challenge.
I plan to focus in 3 areas, building largely on past city efforts and existing strengths:
Amplify downtown's unique appeal to attract more out-of-city shoppers
Stay focused on making the airport + Epic sports complex bet pay off so people stay and spend in Provo
Develop a long-term strategy to increase the number of household-supporting incomes in Provo

Housing and Growth
Housing and Growth
I support expanding homeownership, but we must also deal with our housing crisis—median home prices are $500K+ while median income is just $62,800. Only 15% of renters can afford to buy homes. Student housing and short-term rentals pressure family neighborhoods.
Student housing and short-term rentals pressure family neighborhoods—a situation that keeps getting worse, not better. We need a new approach that protects neighborhoods from investors while meeting housing needs. Any plan must face three realities: (1) current rules are widely broken because there's huge money in breaking them, (2) the state may override Provo's housing rules, and (3) growth in surrounding areas still means more traffic on our roads.
I see three immediate priorities to balance these competing needs:
Encourage diverse housing types near campus and in high-demand areas with transit access (Downtown, ITOD, East Bay, South of Campus)
Address production costs by updating city processes and revising outdated requirements
Support small and family business development projects through alternative financing

Public Places & Natural Resources
Public Places & Natural Resources
Provo offers unparalleled access to natural beauty. We're blessed with mountains, canyons, a beautiful river, and a lake. As Provo and Utah County grow, we must keep investing in enhancing and preserving these resources for today's enjoyment and future generations' benefit. Any investment in public spaces will be easier now than in 20 years—Central Park would be impossible to create in New York today.
A great quality of life in Provo depends on access to parks and nature, clean air, and water. I want to prioritize these areas during my first term:
Ensure Slate Canyon is not developed commercially and make progress on a city park there
Preserve the foothills and river through land purchases/swaps, strengthening the critical hillside zone, and introducing a river overlay zone
Improve park investments citywide (completing Bicentennial park, investigating community programming at Epic Sports park, adding pocket parks)

Street Safety
Street Safety
Provo is a safe place to live. That's what we love about it. But there's more we can do. When I knock doors, I regularly hear residents worry about road safety for themselves and their kids. Pedestrian fatalities happen in our city, and each one represents a family forever changed.
Our safety backlog is enormous—at our current pace, dangerous areas will stay dangerous for years. We need a new approach that addresses problems promptly, rather than leaving hazards unaddressed. Any safety improvement will be easier and cheaper now than after another tragedy.
I see three immediate ways to maximize our limited budget:
Map dangerous areas through community heat mapping combined with incident data and staff expertise
Implement quick improvements (paint, planters, signs) for thousands of dollars per location—addressing 10-20 problem spots for the cost of one major infrastructure project
Measure results and make successful pilots permanent, building data for future funding

Accessible & Accountable Representation
Accessible & Accountable Representation
I'm running to serve our community. My years on the planning commission showed me that sometimes people just need someone to listen and help them navigate city processes. I also saw how the city can better communicate with residents—giving advance notice, explaining how things work, and gathering input. I believe in a government that's efficient, transparent, and accountable to all Provo residents.
I will focus on:
Developing a city strategic plan with short-term measurable goals, metrics, and deadlines
Helping busy constituents understand Provo developments with regular, easy-to-read reports on my efforts and city initiatives, ensuring their input is heard on critical matters affecting their lives
Always responding to texts and emails to listen and help residents with city issues
Ensuring adequate time between study sessions and votes on important issues facing constituents
