Proposed Slate Canyon Waterpark Development
Proposed Slate Canyon Waterpark Development
Apr 22, 2025
A District 2 neighborhood meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 30th at 6:00 PM in the Provo City Hall to review a proposed waterpark, hotel, and housing development at the mouth of Slate Canyon.
To address its affordability crisis, Provo needs more and different types of housing. Consequently, Provo should be welcoming to responsible, high-quality investors and developers.
But, I believe in two limiting principles:
1) No neighborhood should be asked to bear more than the next incremental level of development.
2) Preserve public spaces with high environmental, recreational, or cultural value.
The proposed development violates these two limiting principles.
Slate Canyon is one of our city's most beautiful, natural, and wild places and should be conserved.
Furthermore, the proposed development goes against the city's existing commitment to developing a park in that area or keeping it as open space.
Please plan on attending this meeting to support Slate Canyon, if you can.
