Conserving Slate Canyon

Conserving Slate Canyon

Aug 8, 2025

I'm happy that Slate Canyon is safe for now.

It has been amazing to see Provo residents rally around it.

I hope we can use the energy on this issue to make more progress, including:

  1. Put the city's land around the canyon in a conservation easement that would permit the development of park and needed infrastructure facilities, but nothing else

  2. Buy or swap for the few remaining private parcels around the mouth of the canyon

  3. Put the park in the general plan and follow through on getting it built, taking a phased approach to make progress faster

We can conserve and enhance this wonderful place for current and future generations.
